The first entry, Do Trace, starts the tracing process. The program will display an hour glass pointer, and you can watch the traced image building up in the Vector window.
The next entry Image Info will open this window when selected.
This shows information about the Bitmap and Vector images. The size shown for the Vector image is only indicative, this is not necessarily the size of any particular format the Vector image is saved as.
The upper area gives information about the Bitmap image, resolution is shown as dots per inch. The number of colours will be 1,2,4,16 or 256.
The 'Zoom' entry on the Trace menu opens a window that lets you set the scale of the images displayed.
You can either click on one of the buttons or enter a custom zoom value and press return.
The final entry on the Trace menu opens the settings window.
This allows you to enter the average error for each pixel traced. In other words how closely the Vector file corresponds to the Bitmap file. Large values will produce Vector files that poorly correspond to the Bitmap file. Small values will produce Vector files that are more accurate. However, if this number is too small, the Vector file will start to reproduce the individual pixels of the Bitmap (just the oppostite of what we are trying to do). Vector files will become larger as the error is decreased. In general, error has to be adjusted to get the best results for a given image.
